Last day of Boot Camp

Our last day started early again with breakfast (they have great volunteer cooks here). Our next seminar was on RV Tire Safety by Neil Lekander. All the seminar presenters were excellent! They had a "panel of experts" to answer our questions. I have lots of handouts to review! All this technical advice was wonderful but I need to go over what I learned so I can apply the advice and knowledge this Boot Camp provided. More information is available at www.escapees.com and go to "RVers' Boot Camp".

Evening campfire

While we were eating dinner Mark also did double duty as the campfire builder. S'mores were again provided and we all sat around and talked and told jokes.

Dinner with "Chef Mark"

Not only does Mark Nemeth teach us about RVing but he also cooks great hamburgers and hot dogs!

Escapees RV Boot Camp

Saturday and Sunday started with breakfast served from 7:00 AM - 8:00 AM. Those of you who know me, know that I do NOT function well that early in the morning! Classes started promptly at 8:00 AM with RV Systems and Weight and Load Management. After lunch we had RV Hitch Up Tips and Fire and Life Safety. I had seen Mac McCoy's Fire Safety seminar at the FMCA Rally but it is worth seeing again. This was followed by a "Ask the Full-timer" roundtable where everyone could ask questions of the experienced full time RVers.

Mark Nemeth was the program directorfor the Boot Camp. He is very knowledgeable and extremely patient with all our questions. Angie Carr organized everythung and did an excellent job. We started the first afternoon with a basic course for new RVers and then Driving Tips and Techniques for everyone. This was followed by a campfire gathering with s'mores.

Escapees RV Boot Camp

I arrived at the Escapees Headquarters ("Rainbow's End") at Livingston, TX for the RV Boot Camp and was assigned a campsite at the end of a row with picnic tables stacked up next to me. This is a picture of my campsite AFTER they moved some tables so I could get in and out.
I registered and paid for the Boot Camp many months ago and it is finally here. I picked up all my materials and several "goodies" and met up with my friends Randy & Dianne Chambers who were also attending. I also met Paul & Jean Carroll as they were checking in. A casual conversation about their Sheltie led to my finding out that we had many friends in common. They also referred me to a Suzuki repairman in Livingston and the $500 estimate I had gotten in Houston to repair my AC, he said he could fix for $60! He also fixed the "Check Engine" light that I had taken to 3 places in Houston and they couldn't diagnose.

Halloween at Brazos Bend State Park

Happy Halloween! Fun and games made the evening and as usual we had plenty of delicious food at our potluck dinner. We had a fantastic fire with perfect weather and a full moon to enjoy it all.

Halloween at Brazos Bend State Park

After much rain, we had a perfect weekend for camping. Brazos Bend State Park has always been a favorite and this weekend it was full of people enjoying fall.
